The victims were identified as Swapna Begum, 25, and her mother-in-law Amina Begum, 41.

Sources said a tide of mud and water swept down on their home at about 3:00am. As the condition of Swapna was critical, she was rushed to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital.

Police said Swapna's husband Shahidul Islam was arrested on charges of hill cutting in June and served two weeks in jail.
