Treasurer of BNP Bhangura poura unit Wares Ali filed an extortion case in the court on June 25 against the lawmaker, his wife Siddika Anwar, and a close associate Rejaul Karim.

In the case, the complaint alleged that the ex-MP and his wife demanded Tk 5 lakh in toll from him in 2006 when he sought a permission for organising a Circus show on Bhangura High School's premises for the development of the school.

"But the former lawmaker didn't give me the permission though I paid them Tk 2.71 lakh," said the complainant.

Meanwhile, another extortion case against Anwarul Islam and 4 others including his wife was filed in Pabna Cognizance Court-2 on July2.

The former lawmaker has been absconding since February 17 when the joint forces recovered corrugated iron sheets of government relief fund from his son's poultry firm, sources added.
