Extortion case against ex-BNP lawmaker

Being ordered by Pabna Cognizance Court-2, Bhangura police yesterday recorded an extortion case against immediate- past BNP lawmaker K M Anwarul Islam and two others. Treasurer of BNP Bhangura poura unit Wares Ali filed an extortion case in the court on June 25 against the lawmaker, his wife Siddika Anwar, and a close associate Rejaul Karim. In the case, the complaint alleged that the ex-MP and his wife demanded Tk 5 lakh in toll from him in 2006 when he sought a permission for organising a Circus show on Bhangura High School's premises for the development of the school. "But the former lawmaker didn't give me the permission though I paid them Tk 2.71 lakh," said the complainant. Meanwhile, another extortion case against Anwarul Islam and 4 others including his wife was filed in Pabna Cognizance Court-2 on July2. The former lawmaker has been absconding since February 17 when the joint forces recovered corrugated iron sheets of government relief fund from his son's poultry firm, sources added.
