Mass Suicide
Mobi brought to Dhaka for better treatment

Merajunnahar Mobi, who became mentally disordered after all her family members committed suicide by jumping under a running train in Mymensingh on July 11, was sent to National Mental Health Institute in Dhaka yesterday.

Mobi, who has been living in Brahmanbaria since her marriage, became mentally unstable after hearing the news of suicide. As her condition deteriorated, local people took her to a private clinic.

She has nobody to look after her as she along with her 14-month daughter has long been living separately in a rented house following feuds with her husband. She earned a living by giving private tuition.

A group of people came to her aid and sent her to Dhaka for better treatment.

Her two other children who lived with her mother in Mymensingh are among the nine people who committed suicide together.

The others who committed suicide are her mother Ayesha Akter Hena, sisters Mahbuba Akteri, Murshida, Gulshan Akter Rahat and Shabnam, brother Md Arif, and a domestic help Neela of Tangail.

He eldest brother Gulam Mahin, a university teacher in the USA, was killed by a gang of criminals in Dhaka on September 10, 2005, Mobi told reporters before leaving for Dhaka.

Meanwhile, Brahmanbaria police have collected some information about her family members and sent them to Mymensingh police.
