Twenty-eight report to hockey camp

Some 28 players reported yesterday to coach Mahbub Harun and assistant coach Abdullah Piru for the second phase of the national hockey camp that began at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium.All the players practiced ahead of the 7th Asia Cup hockey tournament that starts on September 1 in Chennai, India. Earlier on Wednesday, Bangladesh Hockey Federation picked 28 players out of the initially selected 51. "Our target in the tournament is to hold the sixth position as we finished eight in the last meet," said assistant coach Abdullah while talking to UNB at the practice venue. He said that the final squad will be announced after the six-team preparatory tournament to be held in the first week of August. The teams are BKSP, Navy, Air Force, Army and the 28 players split into two sides. A total of nine teams -- defending champions Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Korea, China, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and hosts India -- have so far confirmed their participation in the tournament.
