IGP orders probe into harassment of Narsingdi journalist

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nur Mohammad on Tuesday ordered investigation into allegation of harassment of a journalist by the Narsingdi police.The order came upon a petition by Asadul Haq Polash, UNB correspondent of Narsingdi, who said Sub-Inspector Alamgir-1 called him over phone to Narsingdi Police Station on July 2 and arrested in a cheating case. Later, he was produced to the court that sent him to jail hajat the same day. But the court released Polash on bail on July 10 as the police failed to produce any evidence of the charge against him. Meanwhile, Mohammad Nasir, a peasant of char area who allegedly filed the case with Narsingdi Police Station, in an affidavit with Notary Public said he was not aware of the case. He said the police officers had coerced him to sign on a white paper with threat of implicating in a robbery case.
