Murder of Adv Sayma Khanum condemned


Different organisations have condemned the murder of Advocate Sayma Khanum, Supreme Court lawyer and former cultural affairs secretary of Dhaka Bar Association, at her Elephant Road Apartment in the city on Tuesday.

In a condolence message yesterday, Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association expressed their deep shock at her gruesome killing and demanded an exemplary punishment to perpetrator.

The association also held a condolence meeting at its office in the morning and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.

In a separate condolence message, Dhaka Bar Association (DBA) President Fakir Delwar Hossain and General Secretary Golam Mostafa Khan expressed deep shock at her murder which they said has created a heinous history in the country.

DBA leaders also prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy for the members of the bereaved family.

Acting President of Bangladesh Society for The Enforcement Of Human Rights-BSEHR Giyas Kamal Chowdhury, Acting Secretary General Nurul Islam Khan and Executive Director Elina Khan have expressed their shock and profound grief at the brutal killing of Sayma Khanum.

The BSEHR leaders also demanded an immediate arrest of the criminal.

Karmojibi Nari President Shirin Akhter and General Secretary Sharmeen Kabir also condemned the killing of Syama Khanum and said her killing came as the latest example how women are persecuted in the country.

They called on the authorities concerned to hunt down the criminal and demanded an exemplary punishment to them.

Women For Women, a research and study group, also condemned the killing of Sayma Khanum and called on the authorities concerned to ensure that such horrible incidents do not repeat in future.

Advocate Abed Raja, former president of Dhaka Metropolitan Bar Association, also expressed his shock at her killing and conveyed his condolence to the bereaved family.
