Rooney backs Tevez chase

Wayne Rooney has given the thumbs up to Manchester United's 30 million pound move for Argentina striker Carlos Tevez after admitting that he is desperate to team-up with the West Ham star. Tevez flew into Manchester on Tuesday ahead of a medical prior to his proposed switch to the Premiership champions, despite current club West Ham refusing to grant permission for the player to undergo the examination. While United and West Ham attempt to thrash out a compromise that will smooth the way to Tevez moving to United, current Old Trafford forward Rooney insists he is already looking forward to playing alongside the Argentina star. "Carlos Tevez was unbelievable for West Ham in the second-half of last season. He did brilliantly for them, keeping them up in the Premiership," Rooney said in Tokyo where United are on an Asian tour. "If we can sign him, he will be a great signing for us and I'd really look forward to playing alongside him up-front. "I don't know how we would turn out as a partnership because I'd have to play with him first, but I'm sure we could. "Top players anywhere can work off each other and that's what we would do." Tevez has already agreed personal terms with United, but the transfer is being held up by a dispute relating to the player's actual ownership. West Ham hold his registration and Media Sports Investments hold his economic rights. United officials, who were flying into Seoul on Wednesday for the second leg of their Asian tour, are determined to push the transfer through within the next week, however. "We are confident that it can all be concluded over the next week or so," United chief executive David Gill said on Monday, adding that the deal had become "over-complicated".
