Rab man, criminal shot during gunfight

A member of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and a suspected criminal were injured in a gunfight between the elite force and the gang members in the city on Monday night.The injured Rab sepoy Mahbubur Rahman received a bullet in the shoulder while the criminal Arif Hossain alias Tokai Arif is undergoing treatment at Orthopaedic Hospital with bullet wounds in his leg. Rab officials said they arrested Tokai Arif from Kaderabad Housing in Mohammadpur at round 11:00pm. Following information divulged by the arrestee, Rab went to Chandrima Udyan to arrest other members of the gang. Sensing their presence the criminals tried to flee the area prompting the Rab to chase them. At one stage the criminals opened fire on the elite force members who also fired back in return. After searching the area, Rab seized a one-shooter gun and two shotgun bullets.
