Ex-Bogra DC, 13 others sued for Tk 40cr embezzlement

Fourteen people including a former deputy commissioner (DC) of Bogra were sued in a case yesterday for misappropriating Tk 40 crore.

AKM Mustafizur Rahman, an employee of Bogra DC office, filed the case with Sadar Police Station against the accused including former DC, Rafiqul Mohamed, and former director of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation, Shahe Alam.

The complainant in the FIR (first information report) mentioned that the DC embezzled the money with the assistance of the other accused by issuing fake slips during selling of the government fuel.

Rafiqul also misappropriated money by selling government trees on the premises of his residence and the DC office, the plaintiff added.

The complainant also alleged that the DC embezzled Tk 2 crore taken from around 400 candidates for jobs at primary schools.

The DC also illegally took Tk 3 crore from the candidates for the post of land revenue collectors.

A primary investigation into the allegations by a joint secretary and Rajshahi divisional commissioner found the DC guilty of misappropriating the government fuel.

Officer-in-charge of Bogra Police Station Hasan Shamim Iqbal said the case would be sent to the Anti-Corruption Commission as per the law.

Another employee of the DC office Rejaul Karim filed another extortion case against Rafiqul Mohamed on July 11.
