Artist Shafiqul Ameen turns 96 today
Eminent artist of the country Shafiqul Ameen turns 96 today, says a press release. The veteran artist has been associated with the Institute of Fine Arts (IFA) since its inception and has been a teacher, administrator and later, the principal of the institute.

Ameen joined Calcutta Art College as a student along with Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin in 1932 and completed a six-year course in art and drawing. Later he worked at Rangpur Teachers Training College, David Hair Training College, Mymensingh Training College, and Dhaka Training College.

Ameen worked side by side with Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin to establish IFA (also known as Charukala). He later went to England on a scholarship and taught art at Brighton College under London University for a year. After retiring from IFA, he joined Sonargaon Jadughar complex as its executive director and worked for seven years.

Shafiqul Ameen is associated with a number of social organisations at home and abroad.
