Adulterated ghee worth Tk 10 lakh seized in Ctg

A mobile court seized around 3.6 metric tonnes of adulterated ghee worth about Tk 10 lakh that eight wholesalers of the city's Reazuddin Bazar surrendered before the court yesterday.One Shahjalal Food and Chemical Works produced and marketed the adulterated ghee branded as 'Taaza'. Sources said the court in a drive at Saifuddin Siddiqui Road of Reazuddin Bazar directed the concerned wholesalers to surrender all adulterated ghee of Taaza brand, if they had any in their stocks, without any penalty. Otherwise, the court warned them of taking stern action. Leaders of Reazuddin Bazar Shop Owners' Association also assisted the court by miking the directive in the area. Responding to the directive, eight wholesalers surrendered the ghee worth around Tk 10 lakh. Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Magistrate Mohammad Munir Chowdhury led the three-hour drive with the help of Chittagong Metropolitan Police and Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute personnel.
