BB asks banks to submit Sheikh Rehana's account information

The Bangladesh Bank (BB) yesterday asked all banks to submit within 11:00am today any account information they have of Sheikh Rehana, younger sister of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.

Sources said following an instruction of a task force under the National Coordination Committee, the BB made the move.

Earlier, the central bank collected account information of Awami League President Shiekh Hasina, and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Meanwhile the UNB reported that the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday filed a graft case against former minister Mirza Abbas, former lawmaker Ali Asgar Lobi, and a government official for their alleged involvement in fraudulently allotting an industrial plot.

ACC Deputy Director Syed Iqbal Hossain filed a first information report (FIR) with Shahbagh police station against Abbas, Lobi, and Panchagarh district's Tetulia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahfuzul Islam, formerly a senior assistant secretary to the public works ministry.

In the FIR, the trio was accused of illegally allotting an industrial plot in collusion with each other in Tejgaon Industrial Area for a business organisation, Pacific Chemical Ltd, owned by Lobi. It was mentioned that the accused three exercised their influence in allotting the 19.44 katha plot ignoring government rules.

Without having no-objection certificates from the Board of Investment and the Department of Environment, the plot was allotted as an industrial plot.
