Mysterious Disease
8 Narsingdi students shifted to DMCH

Eight students of Adiabad Islamia Multipurpose High School, who were affected by a mysterious disease yesterday morning, have been shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the afternoon.

Some 50 students and a teacher, Ehtasamul Huq, fell unconscious with convulsion in the classrooms at about 9:00am yesterday. The school is situated in Raipura upazila, about 25km away from the Narsingdi town.

On information, Deputy Commissioner Jillar Rahman and Civil Surgeon Dhirendra Nath rushed to the school.

The affected students were rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. After receiving first aid, 20 of them regained senses and were released while 30 others were undergoing treatment in the hospital. Eight of them were transferred to DMCH by the evening.

The affected students were found regaining senses but they became unconscious with convulsion again, said the Civil Surgeon.

He could not ascertain the disease but said it might be unknown virus.

Earlier on Thursday, 20 students of the school became unconscious in the classrooms with similar symptoms. After nursing, they were sent back home.

The school was declared closed for three days.
