Withdrawal of termination letters demanded

Different political parties and workers' organisations yesterday demanded reconsideration of the decision to terminate the job of the workers of People's Jute Mill in Khulna.Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) Central Committee Member Comrade Mubinul Haider Chowdhury in a statement yesterday said that the public hoped that the present government would take necessary steps to preserve country's industry, leaving the anti-national interest policy of the previous governments. He demanded withdrawal of the decision to terminate the jobs of the workers and to lay-off People's Jute Mill following the suggestion of World Bank, IMF and other so-called donors. Jute Yarn-Cloth Industry Worker-Employees Movement Council Convener Abul Bashar, Joint Conveners Shahidullah Chowdhury, Shafiuddin Ahmed and Lutfar Rahman in a joint statement said around 3,200 workers, employees and several hundred replaced workers have been retrenched. As a result, the country will be deprived of some 20000 jute products and foreign exchange of Tk 100 crore a year, the statement added.
