Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) Central Committee Member Comrade Mubinul Haider Chowdhury in a statement yesterday said that the public hoped that the present government would take necessary steps to preserve country's industry, leaving the anti-national interest policy of the previous governments.

He demanded withdrawal of the decision to terminate the jobs of the workers and to lay-off People's Jute Mill following the suggestion of World Bank, IMF and other so-called donors.

Jute Yarn-Cloth Industry Worker-Employees Movement Council Convener Abul Bashar, Joint Conveners Shahidullah Chowdhury, Shafiuddin Ahmed and Lutfar Rahman in a joint statement said around 3,200 workers, employees and several hundred replaced workers have been retrenched.

As a result, the country will be deprived of some 20000 jute products and foreign exchange of Tk 100 crore a year, the statement added.
