BTRC action against sale of unregistered SIMs soon
Bss, Dhaka
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has decided to take action soon against the sale of unregistered SIM cards by mobile companies that has been leading to mobile crimes, sources said. Despite there is prescribed forms for prospective buyers, SIMs of several cellphone companies are being sold without maintaining the minimum procedures across the country, BTRC sources said. They said the mobile companies must abide by the rules and regulations of the land to carry out the business in Bangladesh. BTRC has issued a letter on March 16 instructing the mobile operators to snap the connections of mobile cellphones, which are not registered with any owners, and give the connections afresh after duly filling in the prescribed forms where attaching fingerprints and photographs of the mobile phone users are mandatory, sources said. Sources at the law enforcement agencies said unregistered selling of SIMs makes it difficult to track down offenders using mobiles for committing crimes like black mailing, mobilising terrorists movement and giving threats of killing.
