Pro-Jamaat RU dy registrar threatens staff for not signing false bill

A deputy registrar of the legal cell of Rajshahi University (RU) allegedly threatened the deputy accounts director of the university as he did not sign a 'false' bill. Deputy Registrar Tajul Islam, also a pro-Jamaat leader of university officers, came to the office of Deputy Accounts Director Asraf-ul-Huda in the morning and asked him to sign the bill of Tk 1.35 lakh, campus source said. As Huda refused to sign it, Tajul Islam misbehaved with him and threatened him with dire consequences, they added. Later, Huda submitted a written complaint to the vice-chancellor, registrar, proctor, Motihar police and the Rab office and demanded legal action against Tajul Islam. In his complaint, he said Tajul Islam put pressure on him to sign a 'controversial' bill for the fees of advocate Khandoker Mahbub Uddin. He added that the deputy registrar also misbehaved with him and threatened him in front of some officers. On September 10 in 2006, the then RU registrar appointed advocate Khandoker Mahabub Uddin to conduct the case of 'controversially recruited 546 RU employees', campus sources said, adding that Tajul Islam went to the office of Huda yesterday morning to collect the fees of advocate Khandoker. But Huda refused to sign the bill as it did not have the name or signature of advocate Khandoker, the sources said. When contacted, Tajul Islam declined to make any comments and threatened the university correspondents, saying that he will take legal action against them if any news against him is published.
