Scouts urged to play key role in nation building

President Iajuddin Ahmed yesterday urged the Scout leaders to take initiatives to further increase the number of Scouts and enhance their qualities and skills in order to advance the Scout movement.

"You will receive full support and cooperation from me in this regard," he said, making a call for the Scouts of the country to contribute to nation building with the spirit of patriotism.

The president, who is also the chief Scout, made the call while addressing a function on the occasion of distribution of President's Scout and President's Rover Scout Award.

He hoped that the century-old Scout movement would be more dynamic and become welfare-oriented through united efforts of all.

He mentioned that the Scout movement, pioneered by Lord Baden Powell in 1907, has spread all over the world with the passage of time.

Congratulating the 53 Scouts who won the awards, the president asked the Scouts and Rovers to play a key role in nation building.

Referring to their various services in the field of tree plantation, sanitation, and health and environment awareness campaign, he advised the Scouts to be more involved in service-oriented work in the future.
