Two robbed in Chittagong

Muggers took away Tk 1 lakh in cash, valuables and ornaments and injured two people in separate incidents in the port city yesterday.Sources said muggers stabbed and robbed Md Mohiuddin, an employee of Chittagong Shah Amanat Airport, of Tk 1 lakh in front of Holy Crescent Hospital at around 3:30pm. A gang of four muggers in a CNG-run autorickshaw intercepted the autorickshaw in which Mohiuddin and his relative Abu Taher were traveling and tried to snatch the bag that was containing the money. They also opened fire to create panic, said Abu Taher. As Mohiuddin tried to resist, one of the muggers stabbed him in both his hands and made away with the bag. Mohiuddin and Abu Taher were going to Mirsarai after collecting the money from Bhuiyan Motors at Agrabad, sources said. Injured Mohiuddin was undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). In another incident, muggers snatched ornaments and valuables from a housewife in Kazir Dewri area at about 3:30pm. The victim, identified as Shima Alam, 35, wife of Manjurul Alam Manju, president of Chittagong Photo Journalists' Association (CPJA) and senior photojournalist of local daily Dainik Purbokone, also received injuries in her right arm as the rickshaw in which she was traveling turned over following a scuffle with the muggers, who were in an autorickshaw.
