Taskforce quizzes ex-secy Akhter, Janakantha editor in jail

The anti-graft taskforce yesterday interrogated former secretary ANH Akhter Hossain and Daily Janakantha Editor Atikullah Khan Masud at Dhaka Centrail Jail. Jail officials said a three-member team, led by Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Syed Iqbal Hossain, interrogated Akhter Hossain at the jail hospital for about an hour from 11:00am about his wealth statement that he had submitted to the ACC. The taskforce members asked Akhter about the real source of Tk 1.25 crore, about which he had mentioned in the statement that 70 persons had given him the money, the 70 persons ACC investigation could not trace as their TINs (Tax Identification Number) mentioned in the wealth statement did not match. The jail officials also said Akhter Hossain failed to give any satisfactory answer to the interrogators' questions. Another team interrogated Atikullah Khan Masud at the jail, but what they asked him could not be known.
