Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury yesterday refuted newspaper reports about telephone conversation between the two political archrivals -- Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia."Some newspapers published reports over the matter only to increase their sales," Sajeda told reporters outside Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on road no 32 at Dhanmondi in the capital. The AL leader accompanied party President Sheikh Hasina who visited the office of the Bangabandhu Memorial Trust to prepare some papers on the Trust's earning and expenditure for the government. "As the government sought some files of the Trust, she [Hasina] came to work on those," said Sajeda. She called upon the military-backed caretaker government to go for holding a free and fair election as they promised. The AL leader said it was the BNP-Jamaat coalition government that dealt with the grenade attack on an AL rally that killed 22 and wounded hundreds. The militancy also surfaced during the rule of the four-party coalition government. Sajeda questioned how Jamaat Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid was allowed to go abroad despite there being murder and extortion cases against him. She urged the caretaker government to concentrate on tackling the price hike of essentials and think about the poor people who live from hand to mouth.
