12 killed in road crashes


Twelve people were killed in separate road crashes in different districts of the country in last 2 days.

Our correspondent from Kishoreganj reports: Two people were killed and twenty others injured in a road accident at Moksedpur area of the town on Kishoreganj-Dhaka Road yesterday.

The dead could not be identified immediately, and the injured were admitted to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital, sources said.

Locals and Officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj Police Station Fazlul Karim said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus from Tarail upazila was overtaking another Kishoreganj-bound bus from Dhaka.

The Dhaka-bound bus suddenly turned turtle leaving two passengers dead on the spot and 20 others injured.

Our Sirajganj correspondent says: A man was crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck on Dhaka-Bonpara highway at Dobirganj of the district yesterday.

Police and witnesses said a Dhaka-bound speeding truck coming from Natore crushed Arshed Ali, 45, of Natore, when he was crossing the road.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

A case was filed with Tarash Police Station in this connection.

Our Chandpur correspondent adds: A class III student of Aliganj Govt Primary School at Hajiganj was killed on the spot in a road accident yesterday at 2:00pm on Chandpur-Comilla Road.

He was identified as Joy Chandra Das, 8, son of Sunil Chandra Das, hailing from Kongaish village under Hajiganj upazila, said police.

It was learnt that Joy was going to school on foot when a speeding Comilla-bound bus from Chandpur knocked him down from behind killing him instantaneously.

Angry mob stopped the bus and caught hold of the fleeing driver and put a blockade on the road for about an hour.

Later, police and local UNO Anisur Rahman Mia brought the situation under control.

A UNB report from Dhaka reports: A young woman was killed and her nephew was injured when a bus dashed a motorcycle near Kalyanpur Bus Stand in the city on Saturday evening.

The deceased was identified as Sabekunnahar, 27, daughter of Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim, a resident of Nabinagar in Savar.

Police said the accident took place when Sabekunnahar and her nephew were going to Savar in a motorcycle at about 7.00pm.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Morgue for autopsy.

Another UNB report from Gopalganj adds: Two people were killed and seven others injured when a truck rammed into a tempo at Sadar upazila on Dhaka-Khulna highway yesterday.

Police said the truck rammed the tempo near Bijoy Pasha bus stand at about 2.00pm, killing tempo driver Nizamuddin, 28, and passenger Imam Hossain, 25, on the spot.

Another UNB report from Comilla says: Two people were killed and three others injured in a road accident at Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when a Comilla-bound bus from Chandpur rammed into a CNG-run autorickshaw at about 3:30pm killing two autorickshaw passengers on the spot and injuring three others.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue for autopsy.

Another UNB report from Kushtia adds: Three people, including a baby girl and a woman, were killed and 30 others injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Lahini Bottala on Kushtia-Rajbari Road yesterday.

Locals said the accident took place at about 4:30pm when the bus dashed against a roadside tree after the driver lost his control over the steering and fell into the ditch.

Three passengers were killed on the spot.

They were identified as Mou,1, Zohura Begum, 35, and a UP member Asgar Ali, 42.
