Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rescued an abducted person from a house at Mirpur embankment area in the city and arrested five kidnappers with a Tk 2.5 lakh ransom yesterday. The arrestees were identified as Ramzan, 18, Shahid, 39, Shuvo, 19, Hosne Ara, 38, and Jharna, 35. Rab sources said the five kidnapped Abdul Khayer, 55, in front of Kalsi graveyard at Pallabi on Friday morning while he was going to his home by a rickshaw. Shahid and Shuvo pushed a piece of cloths into the mouth of Khayer and took him to the house, Rab sources said quoting the arrestees. Khayer knows both Shahid and Shuvo as they live in the same area. Later at night, the gang contacted Khayer's family and demanded a Tk 5 lakh ransom for his release. His family members then informed the Rab-4 members who made a tactical plan to catch the kidnappers. According to the plan, the family members contacted the abductors and they reached an agreement that Khayer will be freed in exchange for a Tk 2.5 lakh ransom. As the family members handed over the money to three abductors in front of Purabi Cinema Hall at Pallabi yesterday evening, the Rab members who were waiting nearby caught the three red-handed. Acting on their information, the Rab members rescued Khayer and also arrested the two women from the house.
