Road crashes kill two, injure 30


Two people were killed and 30 others were injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka and Tangail yesterday.

In Dhaka, a speeding bus crashed into a roundabout near Zia International Airport, killing a passenger and injuring 10 others.

The Gazipur-bound bus from Sayedabad with some 30 people on board also hit three buses before crashing into the roundabout as the driver lost control of the bus, passengers said.

Six injured passengers were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), but doctors declared one of them, Ekkabar Ali, 28, dead.

The five other injured are Sabuj, 10, his grandmother Anwara Begum, 60, Sheuli Begum, 30, Faruq, 35, and Rowshan Ara, 42.

The other injured were admitted to local clinics.

Police seized the bus, but its driver managed to escape.

Our correspondent in Tangail adds: A collision between a bus and a truck left one person dead and 20 others injured at Basail upazila.

Police and witnesses said the accident took place at around 12:30pm when a Dhaka-bound bus from North Bengal collided head-on with a speeding truck on Dhaka-Tangail Road at Patkhaguri, leaving truck helper Abdul Baten, 20, dead on the spot and 20 others injured.

The injured people were admitted to Tangail General Hospital and Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital.
