Forest boss Gani sent to jail

Detained former forest boss Osman Gani was sent to jail yesterday on expiry of his four-day remand granted by a Dhaka court for interrogation in connection with the case filed against him with Uttara Police Station for illegally possessing four passports.Uttara police produced Gani before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka, with a prayer to send him to jail on completion of the remand. Investigation officer of the case in the forwarding report submitted to the court mentioned that Gani has divulged important information, which are being crosschecked. So, he needs to be confined to jail until the investigation of the case is complete. Arrested on May 29, the forest boss was earlier taken on remand for 12 days under the Emergency Power Rules and for possessing four passports illegally. Joint forces so far recovered 289 tolas of gold ornaments from his locker at a bank and seized Tk 6.95 lakh in cash, savings certificates worth over Tk 5 lakh and ownership documents of flats and plots raiding his Uttara residence.
