Four killed, 26 injured in road accidents


At least four people were killed and 26 others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Magura, Satkhira and Rajshahi yesterday.

Cu Correspondent adds: An on-duty traffic constable was killed when a passenger bus ran over him at Nimtala Intersection in the port city yesterday.

The dead identified as Manir Hossain, 42, hailed from Beura under Mirzapur upazila in Tangail.

Police said the bus ran over Manir when he was waiting for bus at the Nimtala Intersection under Bandar Police Station at around 1.30pm.

The accident occurred as the bus driver lost his control over the steering.

Manir was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 2.00pm.

Police detained the bus and its helper while the driver managed to flee.

Meanwhile, a minor boy was killed and five others were injured in a separate road accident at Madunaghat area under Hathazari upazila in the district yesterday.

The dead was identified as Mohammad Hasan, 8, son of one Nasim Uddin of Raozan while the injured were Nahida, 4, Nizam, 22, Shahana Bibi, 25, Sharmin Akhter, 12, Nur Alam, 30.

Sources said the accident occurred when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a bus collided head-on at the Madunaghat area at around 8.00am.

Hasan died on the spot while the injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Our Correspondent from Magura says: A youth was killed and another injured in a road accident at Belnagar area on Magura-Faridpur highway yesterday.

The dead was identified as Tariqul, 27, of Benapole in Jessore.

Police quoting locals said a Faridpur-bound truck hit Tariqul's motorbike when he and his friend Mahbub was going to Faridpur, leaving Tarikul dead on the spot and injured Mahbub, 26, critically.

Locals rushed Mahbub to Magura Sadar Hospital in a critical condition where he has been undergoing treatment.

Our correspondent from Satkhira reports: A farm labourer who was inured seriously in a road accident on Tuesday died at Shyamnagar upazila health complex yesterday.

The dead was identified as Sujat Ali, 50, son of Zaker Ali Gazi of village Biralaxmi in Shyamnagar upazila.

Police quoting local people said a motor cycle hit Sujat near his home on Biralaxmi-Shyamnagar road while he was going to work on a cropland, leaving him seriously injured.

He was rushed to Shyamnagar upazila health complex in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries early yesterday morning.

RU correspondent adds: At least 20 people were injured in road accident at Charghat in Rajshahi yesterday.

Witnesses said a Bagha-bound bus from Rajshahi fell into a roadside ditch at Rawtha College area at about 2.30pm when its driver lost his control over the steering, leaving 20 injured.

Local people rushed to the spot and rushed the injured to the Charghat Health Complex.
