Bullet-hit arms-peddler arrested in Cox's Bazar

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a bullet-hit arms-peddler and recovered two firearms following a gunfight at Buddha Para at Boalkhali village in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday evening.

The arrestee, identified as Manjur Alam, 35, son of one Gura Mian, of Boalkhali Sajulla Para under Sadar upazila of the district, was an accused in a case with Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station.

On information that some criminals gathered at Boalkhali for trading firearms, a squad of Rab-7, Chittagong raided the area at around 7:00pm.

Sensing Rab presence, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting the elite force to retaliate, Rab sources said yesterday.

After a ten-minute-long skirmish, Rab men caught bullet-hit Manjur with a Light Gun (LG) and a bullet from the spot.

They also recovered another LG searching the area.

In primary interrogation, Manjur confessed that he along with his cohorts Badi Alam, Jahangir, Nasir, Shahabuddin and Siraj of the area were involved in several offences including arms trading and murder.

Manjur was undergoing treatment at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.
