428 women fall victim to violence in June


A total of 428 incidents of violence against women took place in June, according to a report of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.

Of the victims, 97 women were raped and 14 women were killed after rape.

During the period, 12 women fell victim to acid attack while four others received burns as they were set on fire, the report added.

Bedsides, 15 women were abducted and 36 women and children were trafficked, of which 19 were sold to brothels.

The report said that 34 women were tortured over dowry and 17 of them were killed. Three women also fell victim to fatwa.

A total of 76 women and children were killed and 53 were tortured for various reasons, the report said, adding that 12 women fell victim to police torture.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad prepared the report on the basis of reports published in 12 daily newspapers last month.
