Rickshawpuller beaten to death over fare

A rickshawpuller was beaten to death at Motijheel in the city yesterday evening by two passengers following an altercation over rickshaw fare.Police identified the victim as Mohammad Farhad, 27, a resident of Manda at Sabujbagh. Local people caught one of the passengers identified as Mamun Hossain and handed him over to police. Police said the two passengers hired the rickshaw from Amtoli at Shahjahanpur and got down at Shaheedbagh in Motijheel at around 6:00pm. The altercation began when the passengers wanted to pay the rickshawpuller Tk 5.00 instead of Tk 8.00, police added. At one stage of the altercation the passengers beat up the rickshawpuller, leaving him dead on the spot, police said.
