Police reform

My attention was drawn to a letter published in a Bengali daily on corruption & reformation of police in Bangladesh. I would like to thank the letter writer first. As a human being, you can compromise or adjust with some of your physical necessities like food, clothes, accommodation & some other mental necessities, but a police officer cannot perform his duties without proper logistic support. So, no reforms or new laws are going to be effective unless this important issue is addressed. We welcome reforms but the matter of requisite logistic support should be included in the process on a priority basis. Otherwise, maybe some police officer will be arrested for taking bribe & that will be news. That's all. No changes will take place. The government will have to ensure that the police officers can live on their salary and other benefits.

Opportunities never come often for a person or a country. So, I will earnestly request you to do some investigation & go deep into the basic problems of policing in Bangladesh at the grassroots level.

I will request you again, for the sake of the future of Bangladesh, to think about the limitations, drawbacks of Bangladesh police & publish reports that reflect the ground reality.
