Train derails in Dinajpur: 15 injured

At least 15 people were injured when a Partabipur-bound passenger train derailed at Mollahpara station under Bochaganj upzila in Dinajpur yesterday.

The derailment disrupted the rail communication between Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh, Dinajpur railway officials said. The rescue operation did not start till filing of the report.

The Kanchan Express left Panchagarh for Parbatipur railway junction at noon but six of its compartments derailed near Mollahpara station, leaving 15 passengers injured.

The injured were rushed to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital and Bochaganj Health Complex.

Sources said the train derailed due to poor railway track, slipper and shortage of stones.

Md. Anwarul Islam, duty station master of Dinajpur Railway, said, "The rescue operation is going on and rail communication could be restored tonight."
