Editor jailed for 3 yrs in N'ganj

A Narayanganj court yesterday sentenced the Ajker Narayanganj Editor Tofazzal Hossain to three years' imprisonment and fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more in an extortion case. Judge Anwarul Islam of the Speedy Trial Tribunal, Narayanganj handed down the verdict. The court also acquitted publisher of the daily Dil Mohammad Dilu and SM Sohag, a reporter, of the charges. Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) caught Tofazzal red handed while extorting money from a local contractor at River View Market on March 14. The deputy commissioner cancelled declaration of the Ajker Narayanganj for violating government regulation.
