RU Irregularities
UGC continues interview

Hundreds of teachers, officials and employees of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday gave interview before the probe body of University Grants Commission (UGC) about the alleged irregularities, corruption and nepotism at the university in last five years.

Campus sources said hundreds of Pro-BNP-Jamaat teachers, officers and controversially recruited employees gathered in front of treasurer's office from the morning for the interview.

"We could not lodge our complaint to the probe body due to their gathering," a complainant told the newsmen.

The probe body did not contact any Pro-Awami League (AL) teachers and officers for interview.

Meanwhile, the body has taken interview of department heads and teachers, deans of different faculties, directors of the institutes, hall provosts, and leaders of officer's and employee's associations in last two days.

The probe body also visited offices at the administrative building and checked files and documents, sources said, adding that the body also investigated irregularities and corruption of AL period.

Progressive Teachers Society Convener Prof Abdus Sobhan told The Daily Star that the body has lost its neutrality as pro-BNP-Jamaat teachers were monitoring the interview sitting along with the probe body members.

"We will submit our allegation to the UGC chairman when he will come to RU campus to attend a function on June 28," he added.
