Road crashes kill minor boy, injure 45

A minor boy was killed and 45 people were injured in separate road accidents in Khulna and Mymensingh yesterday.Staff correspondent from Khulna adds: A minor boy was killed and three others were injured in a road accident at Amadi under Paikgacha upazila in the district yesterday. The dead was identified as Nadik, 3. The injured now under treatment at Paikgacha Health Complex could not yet be identified. The accident occurred when two tempos collided head-on on Koira-Paikgacha road at about 12:30pm. Both the tempos were badly damaged. Traffic on Koira-Paikgacha road was disrupted for three hours as angry people went on the rampage and damaged several buses and other vehicles following the death of a minor boy in the accident. Later traffic resumed at 3:30pm after intervention of police and Paikgacha UNO. The drivers of tempos were arrested in this connection and a case was filed with Koira Police Station. Our correspondent from Mymensingh adds: At least 45 passengers of a bus bound for Dhaka were injured, 30 critically, in a road accident on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near Bhaluka Palli Bidyut Samity Office at Bhaluka Upazila yesterday. Police and local people said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Durgapur upazila in Netrokona skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch, leaving 45 passengers injured. Of the injured, 30 were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) in critical condition and others to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex. On information, Additional Police Superintendent (South) SM Akhtaruzzaman visited the spot and took measures to send the injured to hospitals. A case was lodged with Bhaluka Police Station in this regard.
