RMG workers demonstrate in front of factory in Gazipur

About fifty garment workers who left A&A Garments in Gazipur about one and a half months ago staged a demonstration in front of the factory yesterday demanding payment of their arrears. The workers also put a barricade on Dhaka-Gazipur highway for 10 minutes. Later, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The agitators withdrew the barricade after they were assured that the arrears would be paid within a month following a meeting held between Rab and police and owners of the factory. Police said the workers had been going to the factory for the last few days to have their arrears paid. They left the factory one and a half months back as the owners decided to pay the workers against per piece of production.
