Mobile court demolishes 12 illegal structures

Twelve structures were demolished to recover around 20 gandas of land along Chaktai canal on the third day of the ongoing drive against the encroachers in the port city yesterday.

The drive aims at restoring original shape of Chaktai Khal (canal) - the backbone of the drainage system of the port city, to help the people of Chittagong get rid of the waterlogging and inundation.

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC), Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) and Chittagong Metropolitan Police jointly carried out the drive.

During the drive two three-story buildings were partially demolished while ten tin-shed structures were evicted from the portion of the Chaktai canal stretching from Chamrer Gudam Bridge adjoining area to Rajakhali Khal juncture.

CCC Magistrate Syeda Sarwar Zahan and Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Habibur Rahman led the drive while many of the encroachers were seen to remove the structures on their own, said the sources.
