Bangabandhu Case
50 SC lawyers protest Mainul's comment

A total of 50 lawyers of Supreme Court (SC) yesterday strongly protested Law Adviser Mainul Hosein's comment that the Bangabandhu murder case is not on the government's priorities.

In a joint statement, they said the law adviser's comment is not only unfortunate, tragic, inhuman and against the rule of law, but also against humanity, human rights, civilisation, and is synonymous to standing by the killers of Bangabandhu.

The lawyers said if Mainul's comment came on behalf of the government, it would destroy the caretaker government's image and also put them into controversy.

"The comment of Mainul Hosein is tantamount to showing his sympathy to the killers of Bangabandhu," read the statement signed by Advocate Mamtajuddin Ahmed Mehedi.

"Mainul's terming the killing of Bangabandhu political has also surprised us and his speech is ill motivated," the lawyers said in the statement, adding that the people want to know whose interest the law adviser is serving through such comments.

Shafiq Ahmed, Mahbub-e-Alam, KS Nabi, Yusuf Hossain Humayun, MA Halim, Abdul Matin Khasru, Rahmat Ali and Sahara Khatun are among the signatories to the statement.
