Govt to take over NAM flats today

The housing and public works ministry would take over charges of 73 vacant NAM flats reserved for the lawmakers today, as the parliament secretariat yesterday sent a letter giving its consent in this regard. "We will use the flats as temporary accommodation for the government officials especially for the entry level officials," Housing and Public Works Secretary ASM Rashidul Hai told reporters yesterday. There are 344 flats in 11 NAM buildings located in the city's Manik Mia Avenue and Nakhalpara areas. Of the total, 228 flats were allocated to the lawmakers of the eighth parliament and 43 were allocated to the members of the Special Security Force and the Anti-Corruption Commission. Sources said the government is pondering to rent out the flats, as there is no parliament in place at the moment and there is no possibility of holding an election soon.
