Our Sirajganj correspondent reported that seven people died and 25 others were injured in a bus-truck collision at Konabari on the western side of Jamuna Bridge.

Police and witnesses said the accident took place at around 11:00am when a Dhaka bound mango-laden truck from Rajshahi collided head on with a passenger bus coming from opposite direction, killing five people, including drivers of the two vehicles, on the spot and injuring 27others.

Of the injured, one died on way to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital while the other succumbed to his injuries soon after admission at the hospital.

Six of the dead were identified as bus driver Hanif, 37, truck driver Hosen Ali, 42, and bus passengers Lavu, 35, Shah Alam, 32, Alauddin, 34, and Abdul Barek, 27. Identity of another deceased could not be known.

The injured are undergoing treatment at sadar hospital and different clinics in the town.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Following the accident, traffic on the Dhaka-Bogra road at the western end of Jamuna Bridge remained halted for an hour.

In Munshiganj, three people of a family were killed and four others injured when a Comilla-bound microbus from Dhaka rammed a roadside tree at Bhaberchar in Gazaria upazila at around 1:30pm yesterday, reports UNB.

The dead are Qadir, 71, his daughter Baby Akhter, 41, and grandson Nahidul Islam, 3.

Police said the driver of the microbus lost control over the steering and hit the roadside tree, killing the three on the spot.

The injured--Baby's sons Apu, 10, and Sabuj, 16, niece Salma, 15, and driver Ferdous, 45--were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Two people died and six others were injured when a Chittagong-bound bus knocked a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, a tempo and pedestrians at Munsef Bazar under Patiya upazila of Chittagong district at about 8:30am yesterday, according to our CU correspondent.

The dead were identified as Yunus Mia alias Rubel, 14, son of Abu Sufian, and Shafiul Alam, 28, son of Fazal Karim of Patiya Municipality area.

The injured are Khorshed, Ratan, Ilias, Nurul Amin, Milon Chakraborty and Osman Gani. Of them, four were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), while the rest given first aid at Patiya Upazila Health Complex.

In Barisal, two people died in separate road accidents in Babuganj and Barisal Sadar upazilas yesterday.

Of them, one was identified as Millon Hossain Khan, 15, of Kaderpur village under Babuganj upazila. Identity of the other, who died in a road crash in Sadar upazila, could not be known as of 8:00pm yesterday.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
