Three killed in road accidents


At least three people were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Gazipur and Barguna yesterday.

An unidentified woman was crushed under the wheels of a minibus at Khilkhet in the city yesterday morning.

Police said the minibus ran over the woman, aged at about 45, in front of Khilkhet police box when she was crossing the road at about 10:00am, leaving her seriously injured.

When the woman was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital attending doctors declared her dead.

A case was filed with Khilkhet Police Station in this connection.

In Gazipur, one person was killed and six others were injured in a road accident at Chandra in Kaliakair upazila yesterday.

The dead was identified as Nasima, 17.

Witnesses said the accident occurred in the morning when a Chandra-bound maxi, a passenger vehicle, from Konabari overturned on the road as its driver lost control over the steering, killing Nasima on the spot and injuring six others.

The injured were rushed to the local clinics.

In Barguna, a sexagenarian man was killed in a road accident at Kakchira in Patharghata upazila yesterday morning.

Local sources said Haripada, 65, of Chhonbunia village of the upazila died on the spot as a speeding motorcycle hit him.

The bike rider fled the scene soon after the accident.

Later police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for autopsy.
