Bhuiyan, Tofail hold separate meetings on reforms

BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Tofail Ahmed held separate 'secret' meetings at their respective residences in the city last night.

Sources said both the meetings discussed probable reforms in the two major parties and new ways to run them. The issue of excluding the chiefs of the two parties, if necessary, for bringing reforms in the parties also figured at the meetings.

Chaired by Bhuiyan and Tofail, the meetings were attended only by their followers including some leaders. Details of the meetings however could not be known immediately.

Despite repeated attempts, Bhuiyan and Tofail could not be contacted.

After the military-backed caretaker government (CG) took over, the issue of reforms in political parties came into discussion. And since then some advisers to the CG on different occasions encouraged bringing reforms in the two major parties, excluding both the party chiefs.
