Ze Roberto quits after Copa

Brazilian international midfielder Ze Roberto has revealed that his appearance in the Copa America starting later this month will be his final call-up for the national side.

The 32-year-old, who heads for Bayern Munich next season, has complied with the wishes of the German outfit that he chose club or country.

"These decisions were difficult to make," explained the player.

"I hope I've made the right choice. My time in the national team is coming to an end, I've notified the federation (CBF). I don't want to be competing for a place when I know that I will to too old to play in the next World Cup."

Bayern manager Uli Hoeness confirmed Thursday agreement had been reached with the Brazilian, but on condition that he quits international football.

"We feel that it wouldn't be reasonable for a player of his age to make the return trip between Germany and Brazil five times a season to play for the national side," said Hoeness.

Ze Roberto was one of the few players to remain in the national side after the clearout following their 2006 World Cup quarterfinal defeat to France.

He has won 83 caps and scored six goals for Brazil.

Ze Roberto played his last match Wednesday for Santos.

He joined the Brazilian side after his four-year contract with Bayern ended last June, having previously played four seasons at Bayer Leverkusen.
