Prof Taher Murder
Charge framing date rescheduled

Public safety tribunal and second special sessions court of Rajshahi district yesterday changed the date for framing charge in the Rajshahi University Prof S Taher Ahmed murder case to June 11.

Framing of charges in the case was scheduled to be held yesterday. But the date was rescheduled following a petition over illness of lawyer Saiful Islam Shelly, lawyer of the mastermind-suspect Dr Mia Mohammad Mohiuddin.

The court, however, rejected bail prayers of three self-confessed killers Nazmul, Zahangir and Abdus Salam.

Another accused and RU Islamic Chhatra Shibir (ICS) President Mahbubul Alam Salehi is now in jail.

Mohiuddin and another accused Azimuddin were freed on bail from the High Court.

Prof Taher, a teacher of RU geology and mining department, was killed on February 1, 2006 and his body was recovered from a sewer behind his RU campus residence.
