3 drivers held, 14 vehicles fined in Ctg


A mobile court in the port city yesterday fined 14 vehicles and sent three drivers to jail on charges of violating traffic rules.

The court in a drive led by Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Magistrate Md Munir Chowdhury at the city's Tigerpass intersection fined the vehicles over Tk 45000 on different charges like plying without fitness certificate, increasing number of seats beyond the approved capacity and having date-expired tax stickers and insurance certificates.

During the two and a half hour-long drive that started at 10:00am, the court seized seven vehicles, including bus, trucks and human hauler.

It also held three drivers with fake driving licenses and awarded them one month's imprisonment.

The drivers were identified as Md Faruk Hossain, 30, of Narayanganj, Tofael Hossain, 25, of Comilla and Majid Mia, 35 of Noakhali.

The drive was conducted with the help of traffic department of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).
