Principal jailed for misappropriating funds in Khulna

A Khulna court yesterday sentenced Principal Abu Sayeed of Daulatpur Day-Night College to two years' rigorous imprisonment for misappropriating the college funds. Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Haque also fined the convict Tk 5,000. If Sayeed fails to pay, he will have to suffer three more months in jail. According to the prosecution, Khulna office of Anti-Corruption Bureau filed a case with Daulatpur Police Station on June 16, 1993 accusing Principal Abu Sayeed of misappropriating Tk 27,000 from the college funds by means of forged vouchers. Charge sheet of the case was submitted to the court on April 28 in 1994. Sayeed was tried in absentia. Principal Abu Sayeed was also elected a lawmaker in 1988 from Narail-1 constituency as a candidate of the Jatiya Party.
