Road accidents kill seven

At least seven people were killed and 24 others injured in separate road accidents in Comilla, Mymensingh, Sirajganj and Kurigram yesterday.A correspondent from Comilla reports: Two motorcycle riders were killed and another was injured critically in a road accident on Dhaka-Noakhali road at Shownicho area in Sadar Dakshin upazila yesterday. The dead were identified as Motaleb Hossain, 20, of Howratli village and Monir Hossain, 23, of Goshgow village in the upazila. Police and local people said the accident occurred at 11.30am when the motorcycle from Noakhali turned upside down and fell into a roadside ditch while trying to give passage to a covered van near Shownicho area, leaving two dead on the spot and one injured. The critically injured Mohsin, 23, was rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital. A case was filed with the Sadar Dakshin Police Station in this connection. The bodies have been sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Our Correspondent from Mymensingh adds: Two people were killed in a road accident on the Mymensingh-Haluaghat Highway at Bakshimul under Phulpur upazila early hours of yesterday. The dead were identified as Zahidul, 30, driver of the covered van and Ripon, 32, a salesman of Haque Brothers. Police and witnesses said the accident took place at about 12:30pm when the covered van collided head on with a truck coming from the opposite direction, Zahidul and Ripon dead on the spot. Tarakanda police sent the bodies to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The covered van was carrying the goods of Haque Brothers for distribution. Our correspondent from Sirajganj says: At least two people, including an infant, were killed and 22 others injured in separate road accidents in Sirajganj yesterday. Police and witnesses said a one-year-old child Razib of ullapara village died on the spot and about 15 persons were injured, when a bus turned skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch at Chowkidoho area on the Dhaka-Nagorbari highway in Ullapara upazila at noon when the driver lost control over the steering. Another accident occurred at Mohisluti area on the Dhaka-Bonpara highway in Tarash upazila at 3.00pm when a Nasimon (locally made auto-tempo) turned turtle as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving one dead and seven injured. The deceased was identified as Abdus Samad, 40, of Jahangirgati village in the same upazila. The injured were admitted to Ullapara, Tarash and Sirajganj Sadar hospital. Police sent the bodies to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. Our Correspondent from Kurigram adds: A primary school teacher was killed in a road accident at Dasherhat area under Kurigram Sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Farida Begum, 38, an assistant teacher of Balakura Registered Non-government Primary School and wife of Mahatab Uddin Mandol, acting Upazila Primary Education Officer of Rajapur in the district. Police and local people said a Rangpur-bound truck hit her on Rangpur-Kurigram road at Dasherhat area while she was returning home in a rickshaw from the school in the afternoon, her dead on the spot. The rickshawpuller was rushed to Kurigram Sadar Hospital in critical condition. The truck was seized but the driver managed to escape.
