Graft charges pressed against ex-MP Wadud

The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) placed before a Khagrachhari court the charge sheet against former BNP lawmaker Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan in connection with a case filed for amassing properties by illegal means, misappropriation of government development funds, taking bribes and for anti-social activities.

Deputy Director (DD) of the ACC Mohammad Jahangir Alam, who is also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet before a magistrate court in Khagrachhari Wednesday.

The court forwarded the case to a Chittagong court yesterday for its hearing, Khagrachhari court sources said.

The sources said ACC DD Jahangir Alam filed the graft case on March 22. In the case, the ACC official also mentioned that Wadud provided false information on his wealth statement submitted to the commission on February 25.

In the charge sheet, the IO said the charges brought against Wadud were primarily proved and he should be brought to justice.

Sources said another case is likely to be filed against him in connection with evading government tax.

Joint forces arrested Wadud on February 4 at his house in Khagrachhari. He is in Comilla jail now. The ACC listed him among corruption suspects of the first list.

Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) personnel also arrested his brother Belayet Hossain Bhuiyan, Ramgarh upazila BNP president, along with seven other party men on February 15.
