UP Customs duty on CNG-run CBU bus may be increased to 15 percent from 5 percent to encourage assembling industry for CNG-run bus.It proposes 20 percent supplementary duty on metal-framed furniture. To further promote local production, it seeks to increase customs duty to 15 percent from 5 percent on auto disposable syringe. The budget imposes 60 percent supplementary duty on SIM card and different kinds of plastic products. To address problems facing about five lakh sugarcane growers and local industries and to avoid mis-declaration, the budget refixes specific rate of duty on raw sugar at Tk 4,000 per tonne from Tk 2,250. VAT net would be expanded to immigration advisers, coaching centres, English medium schools, private medical and engineering colleges, private universities, photo laboratories, courier service and air-conditioned bus service. DOWN Considering the problems of newspaper industry, the budget proposes reduction of customs duty on newsprint import to 15 percent from 25 percent and keeping newsprint raw materials duty-free. The proposed budget also seeks VAT exemption for insulin, first aid box, hearing aid, shadowless operation lamps and fire extinguishers.
