Kushtia journo threatened with death

Kushtia correspondent of the Daily Prothom Alo, Tariqul Haq Tariq, was threatened with death over cell phone on Tuesday for a news published in the daily on activities of a local Union Parishad (UP) chairman.The journalist filed a General Dairy (GD) with Kushtia Sadar police station seeking security. According to the GD, the daily on June 3 published a news headlined 'People of Barkhada union annoyed over oppression by Chairman Abdur Razzak'. As the news was published, an unidentified caller introducing him as a close aide to the UP chairman threatened to kill the Prothom Alo correspondent saying, the threat will be executed when after come in the open after lifting of emergency. When contacted, UP chairman Abdur Razzak denied making any threat to the journalist. Police said they are investigating the matter and action will be taken after identifying the criminal.
