The High Court (HC) yesterday stayed for three months a Rajshahi court order that asked an organisation named Tawhid Trust to hand over its 5-storied building at Kajla in the city to detained militant kingpin Prof. Asadullah Al Galib. An HC Bench comprising Justice Khademul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Ashfakul Islam passed the rule, according to the defense lawyers' certified statement faxed to Rajshahi yesterday evening. The HC passed the order as Tawhid Trust authorities appealed against the lower court order. Lawyers Hasan Feroj Siddik and Fazle Rabbi appeared for the petitioners, sources here said. The petitioners were Tawhid Trust Chairman Abdus Salam, secretary SM Mahmud Alam, assistant secretary Rezaul Karim. Judge Zahangir Alam Mollah of Second Special Sessions Court in a verdict on May 24 ordered handover of the building to Prof. Galib. Galib, chief of Ahle Hadith Andolon, Bangladesh (Ahab) and a teacher of Rajshahi University, was arrested in February 2005 after arrested JMB militants named him as their spiritual leader. He was expelled from Tawhid Trust in 2002 following allegations of misappropriation of money and abetting so called Islamist militants against him.
