Road accidents kill four


At least four people were killed and 30 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Sirajganj and Jhenidah yesterday.

UNB adds: A bus driver was killed and 30 others were injured in a collision between two passenger buses in Keraniganj yesterday morning.

The victim was identified as Anwar Hossain, 40, driver of Sundarban Paribahan.

Police said the capital-bound bus of 'Balaka Paribahan' collided with another bus of 'Sundarban Pribahan' near Anwar Petrol Pump at about 9:00am, leaving 30 passengers and Anwar injured.

Of the injured, 10 were rushed to Mitford Hospital and five others to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Anwar succumbed to his injuries at DMCH soon after the admission.

Meanwhile, Lavlu, 11, son of Delwar Hossain, was crushed under the wheels of a bus at Bata signal at Elephant Road in the city at about 9:30am.

Our correspondent from Sirajganj adds: A minor girl was killed in a road accident at Mohisluti area on the Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway in Tarash upazila yesterday.

Police and witnesses said Fahima Khatun, 5, of the Mohisluti village died on the spot when a locally made auto-tempo (Bhutvuti) hit her from behind while she was crossing the road.

Police sent the body to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.

Our correspondent from Jhenidah reports: One person was killed in a road accident on Kaliganj-Kotchandpur highway at Alangi in Jhenidah yesterday.

The dead was identified as Abdul Aziz, 56, of Halda-Chandpur village under Chowgacha upazila in Jessore.

The accident occurred when a bus ran over him while he was crossing the road at Alangi bus stand, leaving him dead on the spot.

Local people put up barricade for four hours following the accident. Later, police brought the situation under control.
